Under Construction

I will be posting again soon! I wanted to get the template worked out so I've been working "behind" the scenes.

Stay tuned to new class postings, projects and more pictures!

Okay...

I didn't get to the new image booklets from Crafty Secrets (yet - the night is still young), but I did work on a project that I've been meaning to do for a long time.

Its a shadow box with a photo of my newphew Hans.

Here's how I made it.

I purchased a 5x7" shadow box from a local dollar store and I painted a base coat using Ranger Industries Paint Dabbers (aqua).

Next, to create the crackle coat, I used a trick that I learned from Claudine Hellmuth's workshop (at Artristy 2007). Take Elmers "Glue All" and smoothed out a very thin coat over the previous coat. (Thick layer will result in big cracks, thin coat results in smaller cracks).

Then using Making Memories Acrylic Paint, brush on a coat over the glue and set aside to dry. If you miss a spot, don't touch up as it may mess with the crackle finish.

After it drys..... the result is a crackle finish without having to buy the crackle coat!

Finishing off the rest of the shadow box was easy. I used Bo-Bunny "Star Struck" polka-a-dot paper, matted the photo with 2 shades of Bazzill Cardstock (sea salt and whirlpool) and added a strip of patterned paper and cardstock then some Doodlebug Buttons, and ric rac.

I used thick chipboard pieces to build up the photo in the box and glued everything in place with Beacon Zip Dry.

Lastly, I used Making Memories White Alphabet Rub-Ons for "Summer 2007".

The results are a dimensional shadow box of baby Hans in all of his 4 month old cuteness!

Mom hasn't seen the results yet, but I'm sure she'll want to make one for herself!

Time to get back to creating something else.

These are my newest cards that I've created for Memory Weavers. I've used the Crafty Secrets "Fairy Enchanting" Sticker sheet and a few of their Clear Art Stamps on the inside. I've also added Stickles Glitter Glue (crystal and diamond) onto the wings to give an extra sparkle.

Here are 3 cards to show you what I've created.

These cards are for April and the beginning of May.
This weekend I'll be playing with some new product. The new Journaling Booklets from Crafty Secrets. I just got them this evening and I can't wait to start playing. Oh how I love vintage images!
Have a good weekend!

Can it really be that long since I've posted? It's now 4 months into 2008 and I've yet to post! Well, I've been inspired by some of the blogs I've been reading lately and it's made me think that perhaps I should keep mine updated a little bit more. Maybe not everyday, but at least more often than every 5 months!

I do have some news to share. It has always been a dream of mine to be "published". I think it began in college when I was studying Canadian History and photography. I envisioned myself authoring a book about early British Columbian Victorian society. Researching the life styles of those who lived here during early 1800's - studying old tin-type, Ambrotype and Daguerreo-type photos and what secrets they held...

Well, I have not published that book (yet...) but I have been published!

In the Spring 2008 Issue of The Canadian Scrapbooker, on pages 108 and 109, in the SWAK section (Sealed with a Kiss), my vintage Baby cards and gift bag creations were published! I was so excited when they were selected, but even more so when I saw how they looked in print! I've used Crafty Secrets products including vintage stickers, papers, cotton scraps, and even their clear art stamps. I still get butterflies in my stomach when I look at the magazine.

Here's a picture of me holding open the pages.

Until next time....
